The opportunity
TC Professional Services is looking for accounting and tax graduates who want to develop a specialist career in UK personal taxation. You will receive structured training while supporting UK accounting firms with the preparation of Self Assessment tax returns for their clients. You will learn to review financial and tax information, prepare computations, maintain working papers and apply UK personal tax rules. As your capability develops, you will take responsibility for increasingly complex returns and a broader portfolio of work.
What you will do
With training and support, you will:
- Assist with the preparation of UK Self Assessment tax returns
- Review information and identify missing or inconsistent documentation
- Work with employment, rental, self-employment, partnership, dividend, interest, pension and capital-gains information
- Enter and maintain accurate information in personal tax software
- Prepare supporting tax computations, schedules and working papers
- Check that tax-return information agrees with supporting documentation
- Assist with tax-liability and payment-on-account calculations
- Raise clear queries where information requires clarification
- Liaise with colleagues in India and the UK for outstanding information
- Complete assigned work in accordance with HMRC deadlines and internal procedures
- Respond positively to feedback and make amendments promptly
- Maintain complete and well-organised tax records
- Protect confidential personal and financial information
What we are looking for
- A sound understanding of basic accounting or taxation principles
- Good numerical and analytical skills

- Willingness to learn UK personal tax and HMRC requirements
- Good written and verbal English communication
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Qualifications
Applications are welcomed from recent graduates and early-career candidates with one of the following:
- Com or M.Com
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation or a related discipline
- CA Intermediate, or part-completion of the CA pathway
- CMA Intermediate or another relevant equivalent qualification
- Candidates studying towards ACCA
- MBA in Finance with a strong accounting or tax foundation
- Another relevant accounting, finance or tax qualification
Previous UK personal tax experience is not required. Candidates with personal tax, direct tax, income tax or tax-compliance experience are also encouraged to apply where the trainee role remains appropriate.
Technology, AI and continuous improvement
